Message to BEST members from your Bargaining Committee and Executive Board

Written by Communications Chair. Posted in Labour Updates

Since August 11, 2017 we have met with the Employer on six occasions. The bargaining session scheduled for August 22 was cancelled by the employer.

We are working hard to bring you the best possible deal.

We are asking our BEST members to show their solidarity and wear a “Working for you at SFU buttons” to remind each of the SFU campus communities at Burnaby Mountain, Harbour Centre and Surrey of the important and valuable work that you do for them. There has been some confusion on whether or not you are permitted to wear this button on your work uniforms.  You are indeed permitted to wear this button as a show of support for your Bargaining Committee.  We would encourage you to wear this button.

If you have questions or want more information, please contact the union office at 778-782-5494 or email, or contact President Fiona Brady Lenfesty at

We care about the valuable work you do and are here to support you. The Union is working very hard to get a good contract for you all and we appreciate the support.

Wednesday August 9: Rally to support locked out Pacific Blue Cross workers

Written by Communications Chair. Posted in Labour Updates, News

On Wednesday, August 9, 5:30 pm, join CUPE BC in showing your support for locked-out CUPE 1816 employees at Pacific Blue Cross, SFU’s extended health provider.

CUPE employees of Pacific Blue Cross have been in bargaining with their employer since last September. Pacific Blue Cross has targeted retiree benefits, extended health care, drug, and vision coverage in bargaining. The employees have been locked out by management since July 7. Last week, Pacific Blue Cross drew criticism for cancelling its Annual General Meeting with plan members.
