Bargaining Bulletin # 3

Written by Communications Chair. Posted in Labour Updates, News

July 27, 2015

Our last bargaining session was on June 1, 2015. Unfortunately the bargaining dates originally scheduled for June 26, 2015 and June 29, 2015 had to be cancelled as our CUPE Servicing Rep Rachel Champagne had to go off on extended leave.

Fortunately for the local, Universities Co-ordinator Ross Idler has been temporarily assigned to the local to assist with bargaining. You might recognize the name, as Ross was our former CUPE Servicing Rep, and he currently sits as a Pension Advisor to the local on the EJPC (Employees Joint Pension Committee). Needless to say Ross will definitely be an asset to the local, as he is familiar with our local, and with our employer, SFU.

We are now in the process of finishing up the non-monetary discussions at the table, and are ready talk money! Other universities and colleges have now settled (three locals @ UBC and UNBC, to name a few) and as predicted these settlements are all coming under the mandated 5.5% over 5 years, along with some modest improvements.

With a lot of juggling of vacation schedules, we have managed to set three full bargaining days with SFU, on August 25th, 26th, and 27th, 2015. We hope to be close to an agreement at the conclusion of these days.

Please stay tuned for more details.
